AmnioDental is a dehydrated denuded human amniotic membrane for use in oro-facial defect repair.

AmnioDental acts as a specialised wound recovery adjunctive. AmnioDental stimulates the natural recovery of oro-facial soft tissue wounds; to aid in the mechanical repair of minor oro-facial osseous and epithelial lining defects.

AmnioDental is made from human amniotic membrane that is cross-linked.  It is a collagen rich structure comprising the innermost layer of the fetal membrane of the placenta. It contains natural growth factors and cytokines that are integral to the development of a healthy fetus.

AmnioDental is intended to be used as an adjunctive to the normal standard of care for small to medium wound healing applications. AmnioDental is specifically designed to enhance the recovery of soft tissue wounds. AmnioDental is also designed to function as a barrier membrane in guided osseous regeneration procedures and for the repair of epithelial perforations.

Benefits of AmnioDental Include:

  • Provides a structure for cellular migration and proliferation
  • Contains collagen types IV, V and VII which promote cellular differentiation and adhesion
  • Anti-inflammatory effect
  • Bacteriostatic effect
  • Anti-adhesive and supportive in preventing scarring
  • Helps with pain reduction at affected site
  • Known to be non-immunogenic and low in antigenicity
  • Provision of a natural biological barrier
  • Suggested to reabsorb between 5 to 6 weeks when used in situ for guided bone regeneration procedures

Indications of AmnioDental Include:

  • Non-healing oro-nasopharyngeal ulcers
  • In-situ barrier for minor guided bone regeneration procedures of the maxilla and mandible
  • Oral vestibuloplasty procedures
  • Nasal septum perforation repair
  • Maxillary Antrum Schneiderian membrane perforation repair
  • Facial traumatic wound barrier

Collection

The placental membranes are collected during the birthing process according to the National Health Act. All donors complete a health questionnaire and are screened for transmissible disease at the birth.  All AmnioDental samples are tested during processing for bacterial and fungal contamination and to ensure sterility of the product.

Packaging

In the laboratory, the amniotic membrane is spread on a polyester net with the epithelial side orientated onto the net. The membrane is dehydrated, cross linked, cut to size and packaged aseptically in an inner polyethylene pouch and sealed with an outer peel pouch. Dehydrated denuded human amniotic membrane is terminally sterilised by gamma-irradiation.
